Star Walk

Hi guys!

We really enjoy astronomy and we hope you do as well. There are a multiple number of apps you can get for researching and viewing the stars, but Star Walk is our favourite. All you have to do is take a picture of the stars at night and it will automatically show you the name and constellation. There are other apps similar to this, but the apps that cost money are definitely better because they are more valuable. There are many different types of versions for different types of research. So why not give it a go? Here is a video Tanna found that will show us all about it.

If you watch to the end of the video, there is a row of other good videos you can watch to give you information about the other star apps out there. There are also many more videos of different star apps if you go to http://www.youtube.com/.
Search in what you want for your Phone, iPod or other devices.

Whats going on with the stars?

Hi guys!

At this moment, we are lucky. Because we can see the Scorpion, the Southern cross and Alpha Centauri and the two pointers. The Southern cross is part of the Australian flag; it has 7 bright stars in it. The brightest star is at the bottom left corner, which is the commonwealth star. The commonwealth star has 7 points; while the others have 5 points. It is very special because it represents Australian culture.

The two pointers are 2 stars; one bright one dark. If you look where the bright star is pointing, you can see a certain star, or star constellation.
If you see two stars that are quite close together, that is saturn. There are actually 3 stars, but the third is very faint. The stars that are the edges of saturn represent the rings around saturn, those are made out of chemicals and objects we can't get in our world, but some of them are solid rock, which we can get in our world. The ring may seem like you can't put your hand through it, but it is actually see through and you can walk straight through it.
If you would like to see with our telescope some stars, check this chart:

What are star constellations?

Hi guys!
You've already seen what stars are...But what are star constellations?
Star constellations are stars that form a picture, pattern or message in the sky. Stars are famous for their constellations because of pictures that are formed by the stars that are in the sky. This doesn't happen by anything except gravity; it just comes naturally. Each constellation has a bright star representing a part of a certain constellation. e.g
The summer star is  the lion's breast, also known as Regulus. The autumn is the scorpion's heart, Antares. The winter star is the Water bearer's  naked eye, Fomalhaut. The spring star is the bull's eye, Aldebaran. All of those examples are the four brightest stars in the sky. The four royal stars of the zodiac. Leo, Scorpio, Taurus, and Aquarius. You are lucky of you are born to one of those four. Maybe you could make up you're own star constellation too!

One of the most famous constellations; is Orion. His belt are 3 bright stars that are in a straight row across. He has a dog, that marches beside his feet. He was known to defeat the Scorpion. Sadly, Orion chopped the Scorpion's leg off and the Scorpion may have gotten his revenge. Hercules; is another famous greek star constellation, he is known for his true bravery for what he did to his people.

Suggestions for seeing star constellations at night time
  • Go to the observatory - only when it isn't raining or cloudy
  • Watch them from your bedroom window - or go outside if you don't have one
  • Settle dinner outdoors with your family and explain to them
  • Go on a camp, and stay up late to watch them.
  • Look from the airplane - you might be able to see them - not always though
